Better Late Than Never: Red Carpet Trends of the New Year

Written by Alex. Posted in Trends

With the SAG Awards, Grammy’s, Cannes Film Festival, MTV Movie Awards and every other award show soon to air, fashion is an inevitable topic amongst each red carpet. After the Golden Globes premiered on Jan. 15, hints of nudes and emerald green graced the bodies of our most loved celebrities.

The writers from KSU Fashion Blitz may not be as harsh as Joan Rivers and her cohorts on E!’s Fashion Police, but we have noticed the good, bad and ugly award show trends.

From Elle Macpherson in a mermaid-style Zac Posen, to Charlize Theron in Dior Couture, nude/peach tones were all the rage this year. According to viewers, Charlize was a best-dressed nominee for her gown, headband, and matching strappy heels. As for emerald green, Evan Rachel Wood sported a striking metallic green Gucci gown. Melissa McCarthy from “Bridesmaids” wore a remarkably beautiful Badgley Mischka gown with gold detail.

How do you feel about these best dressed picks? Does a nude color make these women look washed out? I want to hear your opinions!

My choices for best dressed are so diverse, and my opinions seem to differ with fashionistas around the web! It’s so typical of me to break away from the norm. Jessica Biel, one of my top favorites, wore a cream colored lace Ellie Saab dress.

Now, even though I may not agree with Jessica’s engagement to my first love, (Justin Timberlake), I do thoroughly enjoy her dress choice. Great job, Jess!

Inevitably, Reese Witherspoon knocked it out of the park with her strapless, deep red Zac Posen gown. As I predicted, the “Fashion Police” weren’t satisfied with her beachy waves to match, and I can agree. I would’ve topped off the stunning ZP dress with a low chignon bun.

My worst dressed nominees are as follows: anyone wearing canary yellow (very Big Bird-esque if I do say so myself), Sarah Michelle Gellar in a blue tie-dyed Monique Lhuillier, and Kelly Osbourne. Ironically, Kelly is known for critiquing celebrity style each week. However, her faux grey hair and royal blue “pointy-shouldered” Zac Posen was an utter train wreck.

In the future, I hope to see more glitz and glam as Madonna, Lea Michelle, and Salma Hayek have shown at the Golden Globes. The Screen Actors Guild Awards are set to air Sunday, Jan. 29, and I will be taking notes on my choice of best and worst dressed nominees.

In the meantime, I will certainly be browsing the Web for more red carpet footage and reminiscing back to my prom days when I was able to get dressed up just like the women we know and love.
