Channeling the vibe of a trendy Soho boutique, The Fashion School Store offers an eclectic assortment of fashion products that are designed and/or made by Kent State students and alumni.
With this look, I wanted to capture the aesthetic of the store by mixing classy with casual all the while giving the look a little edge.
This Paris T-shirt is a great basic for any wardrobe because it can be paired with denim for a casual and comfy look, or it can be amped up when paired with a flirty, pearl-embellished bubble skirt.
To break up black and white, I like to add a splash of color to ensembles using bright accessories or by adding an extra accent layer.
Here, I chose to do both by pairing the tee and skirt with a multi-colored gemstone cuff bracelet and a vintage striped vest.
By mixing materials such as the cotton shirt, chiffon skirt and woven polyester vest, this look displays as much variety as the Fashion School Store itself.

It’s always embarrassing to be seen in public wearing the same thing as someone else. To avoid the awkward situation and stand out from everyone else, you can’t go wrong picking up a one-of-a-kind piece from the Fashion School Store. This week I styled the look with two pieces from the store that are both unique in their own way.
The standout piece of the look is the skirt, made by a Kent alumnus, featuring tiny delicate rose embellishments and a poofy silhouette that is extremely girly and playful. I took the top, also from the Fashion School Store, and tucked it into the skirt but left it looser to keep from looking too formal.
To finish off the outfit I added my own striped blazer and patent leather oxfords to add to the eclectic and colorful theme.
With one or two pieces from the Fashion School Store, it makes for a great outfit with an even better story where it came from behind it.

If you’re like me and get a sick thrill out of hunting down those unique, one-of-a-kind pieces that elevate your wardrobe to the next level, then your prayers have been answered. The Kent State Fashion School Store is a one-stop-shop for distinctive, conversation-starting apparel and accessories you’ll want to wear forever, and it’s just around the corner.
My pick this week embodies what spring/summer 2012 is all about: making a statement with color. The minimalist red blazer [lined in the Kent State map] pops when contrasted with an olive pencil skirt in a bold, graphic print.
The silk shibori scarf, made by fashion student Carl Belfiore, ties together the colors at play while the patent oversized envelope brings the coy-yet-sophisticated look full circle.
In unique pieces like these you’ll walk out the door looking like a million bucks and feeling like a billion, knowing that your one-of-a-kind look has helped support Kent State’s talented students and alumni.
