Summer, Fall or Winter? October Essentials in Kent
In case you haven’t noticed by now, the weather in Kent is anything but season specific. While yesterday was nearly 80 degrees and sunny, today was 66 and raining, and tomorrow there could be frost on the ground. Because of Kent’s unpredictable weather, it is important to invest in a few wardrobe enhancers for the evolving seasons.
Rain Boots and Umbrella
These two are an absolute must, as it seems this campus has a deal with Mother Nature to make it pour every week. Make sure your boots are comfortable enough to trek down the length of the Esplanade and are versatile so they can match a majority of your clothes. Coordinating your umbrella with your boots is always encouraged. Make sure to stock up on a couple of backup umbrellas because the wind will tear them to shreds.
Scarves
The easiest way to warm up your outfit is by throwing a scarf around your neck. Have both lightweight and super chunky as well as solids and patterned options in your closet so you’re able to coordinate with any outfit and any temperature.
Go-to Sweater
Light enough to not be a coat, but thick enough to keep you warm. This is the perfect piece to throw on mid-day between classes when the temp drops 10 degrees all of a sudden. Whether you choose a pullover or cardigan, my general guideline for fall layering is select something oversized to give off that super comfy and effortless look.
Perfect Jeans
It’s no secret that this campus is a wind tunnel, and in the fall to winter months it only gets worse. With that, flowy summer skirts tend to be hazardous unless you want to give an unplanned show to everyone hanging out in Risman Plaza. Make the effort to find your perfect pair of jeans and invest. The right pair can do wonders for your figure. So shop around, explore different color options from true denim blue to hunter green, and don’t be afraid to drop a good amount on a pair that is going to last you more than just one season.
The most important thing about Kent fall fashion is being prepared for everything that the weather might bring. So dress in layers, use tons of accessories, and always, always ALWAYS have an umbrella in your purse. Always.
