Amanda’s Halloween Pick
Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays. Coming from a dance background, I love any excuse to put on a costume and perform as someone other than myself. Because of this, I am that girl who plans her costume months in advance, and I have absolutely no shame in that.
Last year I chose to replicate one of my all-time favorite movie characters, Sandy Olsen from Grease. Being this is college and there are certain stereotypes to fulfill, obviously I chose to be Hot Sandy from the end of the movie when her and Danny Zuko fly off in the convertible after the carnival. Clad in leather pants, bomber jacket, hoop earrings, huge hair and red pumps to match my lipstick, I completed the outfit with all the soundtrack lyrics that I know by heart.
I had to really think about my costume this year because there is a very slim possibility that I will ever be able to top my Sandy ensemble. However, inspiration found me when I was walking through Fashion District during a trip to NYC this June. I spotted a girl wearing a cropped denim vest and instantly knew I wanted to pull off a Madonna circa-1980s look for this Halloween.
This outfit was completed on August 3 – I know this because I made a point to tweet about it, obviously because it is a
huge deal to figure out your Halloween costume. It consists of a black high-waist bodycon skirt, fishnet tights, moto boots, rhinestoned bustier, and a distressed denim vest. To complete this look I will be CRIMPING my hair (yes, capital letters are necessary), wearing a net hairband, and loading up on accessories and flamboyant makeup.
I hope my passion about Halloween costumes inspires you to create one as equally impressive, and I trust none of you readers will steal my costume, as that is the ultimate Halloween crime. Be original, be creative, and be warm! Happy Halloween!
