With New York, London, and Milan Fashion Weeks coming to a close, I thought I’d give a little inside scoop on the trends seen in London. From the homeland of famous designers like Alexander McQueen and Stella McCartney, I noticed metallics, 3-D florals, shades of yellow and orange, sporty/athletic looks, and sheer trends (among others). Some of the best looks I’ve found I will definitely encourage you to emulate, and I’ve found a few places that have these trends in stores!

Metallics

The articles that I’ve read emphasize the need to wear sequins in daylight. I totally agree with this! I’ve done projects in class relating to sartorial looks and fashion-conscious ladies have worn patterns and sequins together. I absolutely love this trend. I just recently dusted off my sequin flats to wear with my colored denim and such.

3-D Floral
This trend was huge for Spring/Summer 2013. As a devout fan of anything floral, I would wear any sort of 3-D prints. Erdem sampled 3-D prints with neon embroidery and appliqué. House of Holland featured plum sequin flowers scattered down a matching silk shirt and trousers. I noticed a girl wearing royal blue shorts, booties, and a white top from American Apparel this weekend. I was absolutely thrilled to notice this trend in a more affordable setting.

Orange and Yellow

Orange and yellow was also a huge trend on the runways of London. Topshop Unique showcased a daffodil yellow trouser suit and Antipodium featured a vibrant orange dress. Even though I’m not a huge fan of each color, I do like them mixed together. I found a website called the Trend Spotter with several photos of this trend. How would you wear these colors?

Greetings, Fashionistas! I hope you all are enjoying some R&R while still keeping up-to-date with the latest fashion news. Since I’ve been a bit stagnant in my writing recently, I thought I’d share with you my favorite Met Ball 2012 looks. From Anja Rubik’s revealing Vaccarello dress that has “put Angelina to shame”, to SJP’s floor-length floral Valentino gown, there was much to see at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 7 in New York City. Along with many of you, I too hope to be invited to the Met Ball someday! Here are some of the looks that I thought stood out among the rest:

Photo: Larry Busacca/Getty Images

Camilla Belle in Ralph Lauren
I was absolutely stunned by the effortless silhouette of Camilla Belle. Her Ralph Lauren Collection ivory tulle beaded dress (with champagne python sandals) was absolutely flawless, and I really think her make up and hair matched perfectly. She mixed old Hollywood glamor and new-age style quite well.

Amy Poehler in Fotini
Funny girl Amy Poehler surprised me at the Met Ball! I love that she incorporated two trends of today: the peplum skirt and feather details. I think it beautifully accentuated her curves, and definitely proved to the rest of us that she can sport high-fashion gowns when the time is right.

Jessica Alba in Michael Kors
Metallics were a hit at the 2012 Met Ball, and Jessica looked wonderful in a glittery one shoulder Michael Kors golden dress. The gathering at her waist emphasized her perfectly petite figure.

Photo: Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images

Diane Kruger in Prada
I’m a huge Diane Kruger fan, and I love that she always stays on top of the latest and most important fashion trends. I adored her Prada gown in deep eggplant with an enormous feather hem, especially because of the simple skater dress top. She is well-known for sporting body conscious dresses, and I respect her even more for choosing this dress without a stylist’s help.

Worst dressed picks: Jamie King (custom Topshop), Dakota Fanning (Louis Vuitton), Mary-Kate Olsen (The Row).

If you’ve ever seen the documentary entitled “Seamless,” a film by Douglass Keeve, you would know how Proenza Schouler started from the ground up.

As an avid user of Netflix, I found myself browsing the endless categories of movies and TV shows when I stumbled upon “Seamless” this past summer.

I was instantly amazed at the history behind each designer’s story and strife. If you are as fashion-conscious as I am, and are always willing to learn, you’ll want to check out as many fashion documentaries as you can! I love dusting off my old “September Issue” DVD and relearning how Anna Wintour got her start as the Editor of Vogue.

Proenza Schouler designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez are now showcasing handmade fabrics in their fall-winter 2012 runway collection (as featured above!). This year, their collection is said to hold an “urban warrior” theme, and I am overly excited to see what these men have in store for consumers.

I’ve been a huge fan of Proenza Schouler for a long time now, and I especially enjoy its sense of youth and flexibility. The brand is on the rise because of the influential individuals that carry it. This month, the CFDA, Council of Fashion Designers of America, awarded McCollough and Hernandez with the privilege of becoming finalists in their annual competition.

This level of prestige seems to be a regular accomplishment for the designers! In 2012, they are up for Women’s Wear Designer of the Year and Accessory Designer of the Year.

For their fall-winter collection, I noticed a lot of oversized outerwear, wide-leg trousers, sporty chic trends, draping, wrap skirts, and much more. Prices ranged from $175 to $8,850. By being compared to as a “young Marc Jacobs” in the industry, the duo continues to combine prints and use their textile knowledge in order to succeed. With their youth nearly behind them, the men of Proenza Schouler continue to steal the spotlight.

Have you heard of Proenza Schouler in the news lately? How have you enjoyed their most recent fashion shows? I would love to hear your runway feedback!

Proenza Schouler remains one of my favorite young American designers, and the work ethic of the two designers behind this brand definitely shows. I’ll leave you all with a laughable quote from Lazaro Hernandez, stating his opinions on his work: “I often wonder, sometimes I think the people who buy our clothes live in a parallel universe. Hell, we can’t even afford our clothes.” Lazaro, I would love to buy your clothes!
