Trench Up With Color

Written by admin. Posted in Accessories

With winter on its way, bundle up in style with a fresh trench coat. Trench coats have been peaking this season and are definitely a must have in your wardrobe. High-end brands such as Burberry have been very fond of this creamed colored style for many years, but you can steal one for a fraction of their price at traditional department stores or at a thrift store.

With the winter winds on their way bundling up with a hat, scarf and gloves are essential. The powdered pink Nike beanie is cute and sporty while the purple patterned scarf adds enough glam contrast to the outfit. Beanies are inexpensive and can be bought almost anywhere. Brands such as Neff make cute beanies for girls that keep your ears warm from the chilly winds.

Mixing and matching winter accessories can be fun, and they don’t all have to be one color. Notice how the pink beanie matches the magenta and purple patterned scarf. Also, the black gloves match the lining of my leather bag and black pants. Too many different colors can become a nuisance, but a few colors working together will create a beautifully constructed outfit.

You would be surprised at what high-end brands you can find at thrift stores for just a few dollars! The grey leather pumps match my cream-colored trench coat and patterned sweater. Also, my black leather gloves match with my high-waisted elastic pants, the wording on the beanie and the lining on my leather Coach purse.

Paying attention to details will help you become better at mixing and matching outfits and accessories. Winter weather is often dreary, but your clothes don’t have to be. Adding some color to neutrals will brighten your look. Just because the weather is getting colder doesn’t mean you should let your clothes go through winter depression!

Fashion Blitz — Art of Contrast

Megan’s Pick

The Fashion Student Organization sponsored the “Art of Contrast” fashion show held in the Student Center Ballroom Friday, featuring student designs inspired by countries around the world. My favorite look from the runway was this beautiful, Chinese-inspired gown by Brittany Miller, junior fashion design major, who earned first place in the individual category.

The gown is 100 percent silk, a combination of silk chiffon in the skirt and silk charmeuse in the bodice. The gown was designed and draped using alternative seams, creating breathtaking movement and flow of the handkerchief-hemmed skirt on the runway. From behind, the gown is backless with a small bow-detail at the waistline, extending into the stunning silk chiffon skirt.

Out of all the amazing designs featured on the runway at the  fashion show, my favorite look of the night was this gown designed by Kendall Walter, president of the Fashion Student Organization.

I loved the deep v-neckline cut of the dress and the asymmetrical hem, which I thought was an interesting touch to a classic gown. The sleek hair and bold red lip were just the right additions to the entire look. The simplicity and elegance of this gown made it one of the standout pieces of the night.

My favorite look from the fashion show was from the Greece-themed collection by Amy Tiefermann. I love reading about Greek mythology, so I found her inspiration from the greek goddesses very interesting. Tiefermann, junior fashion design major, did an amazing job executing her ideas to create three drop-dead-gorgeous dresses.

My favorite dress out of the three is the dress worn by Sammie Sowinski. The side pleats create such a lovely silhouette, but also add a bit of edge to the look. With the combination of Sowinski’s gorgeous dark locks and crystal headpiece, it is no wonder Amy blew the judges away.

Black Friday Insight

Written by admin. Posted in Holiday, Retailers

I am so excited to be going back home to New Jersey for Thanksgiving break because Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I am looking forward to stuffing my belly with juicy turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes drowned in gravy and apple pie. Instead of shopping on Black Friday, I will enjoy saving my money and baking cookies with my family. While I suggest shopping in October or after Christmas for the best deals, I’ve researched some different retailers so you can be prepared for Black Friday.

Best Buy will be handing out tickets two hours before opening at midnight on Friday. You’ll be able to save up to $200 on TVs, Laptops and other electronics. At Kohl’s, shoppers will receive $15 worth of Kohl’s money for every $50 spent. Kohl’s specials will be available from 12 a.m. Thursday until 1 p.m. Friday. Expect 50 percent off on toys, 20 to 50 percent off on electronics and 55 to 60 percent off on jewelry. In the middle of controversy, Target looks to open at 9 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day until 11 p.m. Friday. Target will then be open 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday. The big doorbuster deal is a $349, 50-inch television set. Also, pajamas will be on sale for $10. Shoppers will receive a $10 gift card for spending $50. Happy Thanksgiving and happy shopping!
