Learning Layers

Written by Caitlin Restelli. Posted in Trends

As I stand in front of my closet, I notice I have my summer clothing on my left side hanging and my winter clothing on the right side. Despite the fact that it is separated, it is easy to create outfits utilizing both season apparel.

Take the outfit pictured, which I put together from items in my closet. It’s a comfortable, thin hoodless sweatshirt that can be worn on top of this light blue blouse. The two colors blend well together and can be spiced up with a necklace to offset the plainness of the sweatshirt.

Jeans would go best with this outfit and topped with a comfortable pair of short, brown boots. If the wind is making its way through Kent, add a scarf of your choice.

Layering is something I have noticed as the colder months draw near and this style that can create many outfits just by combining sweaters and T-shirts or sweatshirts and blouses.

I recommend opening your closet doors and begin to mix and match different pieces of clothing and see what you come up with.

Another new watch trend!

Written by Caitlin Restelli. Posted in Accessories, Trends

A recent fad that I have notice rising over the past six months is watches. Not just the typical metal wristband watches, but the ones with the rubber-band watches.

I did not understand why they were so popular all of a sudden, but they care actually quite comfortable. I gave in after a few months of noticing them on my friends’ wrists.

I recommend them because they are classy, comfortable and stylish. I recommend the white band, like
mine, black or clear band. They are the most simple ones and go with any outfit and will not clash with what colors you have on.

If you like vibrant colors, they are out there on the market. Just realize you may not be able to wear it with everything. Since the simple colors go with everything, you’ll get the most use of it. The best kicker of these watches is that you can get them at Walmart for only $10.

I find that quite reasonable for a stylish watch. It’s not the fanciest watch and doesn’t tell you what time it is in Hong Kong, but it’s nice to check the time in class without having to sneak your phone out.

So if you’re looking for a new accessory, I highly recommend one of these stylish, low-priced watches.

My DIY costume

Written by Caitlin Restelli. Posted in Trends

Considering ghosts and goblins are coming out of hiding this weekend, it’s probably best to go undercover so they don’t recognize you. My advice: get a costume.

If you’re like me, you may not know what you’re being for Halloween yet — two days before the festivities. My near-empty pockets limit me to my creativeness. Halloween costumes are overly priced, I mean you typically pay for little pieces of clothing and wear it only once. Fifty dollars for fabric, essentially.

While I was strolling through a Halloween Walmart aisle, I noticed the costumes were in my price range. I didn’t feeling like purchasing a full-out costume this year, so when I saw this red cape, an idea came to me.  I pictured my closet and saw this black dress and shoes (left).

And I can pair it with this red cape from Walmart and simply be a vampire.

Now all I need are fangs bright red lipstick for blood.  The best part is: I am spending merely $10 on this costume.

You can do this, too.  Try walking down a Walmart Halloween aisle and see if a cheap accessory, like a cape or hat will go along with some kind of dress or everyday outfit you have.  It’s easy to pull something out of your closet and turn it into something Halloween related.  You just have to use your imagination.
