A new ‘do

Written by Emily Marshall. Posted in Trends

It’s almost time for the New Year. For many people, this is the time of year to make resolutions, and it is a time when people want to make a fresh start for a brand new year. And great way to make a change is to change your hair.

People say when girls go through problems they change their hair. Either cut it, curl it, straighten it, color it. When I want change, I always decide that bangs will look really good on me. I always want them, yet when I do get them I hate them. Part of why I hate them is because my hair is curly and then I have to straighten them and on and on. I have had short hair, long hair, medium hair, and I once even colored my blonde hair brown. I always get bored of my hair and am always seeking something new.

Changing your hair may be considered more of a beauty article but I think it is more fashion oriented. Your hairstyle can say so much about a person and what their style is. For instance, I think a short cut with bangs (like Anna Wintour’s) looks like you are super stylish or are an Editor-in-Chief at a fashion magazine. The way you wear your hair is really no different then the clothes you pick out in the morning.

Recently my roommate straightened my normally curly hair. My hair went from being a wavy mess to pin straight and neat. It was such a different look for me and my outfits looked different with my new hair-do. I looked more polished and my clothes started to look sleeker. It was a nice change and it proves the power of making a small change to your hair.

Like Anne Hathaway in “The Devil Wears Prada” — she went from a cute hair cut to an amazing one or when Reese Witherspoon showed up with her iconic new haircut with the bags that everybody wanted. A new haircut can be just the thing you need to make this New Year a good one.

So to all of you who, like me, get bored with your hair and are looking for a fresh look for this New Year — I say do it!

It’s a blog, blog, world

Written by Emily Marshall. Posted in Writers

I don’t know about you but I love reading fashion blogs. There are so many out there and I am always discovering many new favorites. I love that fashion blogs are just done by regular people and show so many ways to style a certain piece or the many different looks one can achieve. I am going to list a few or my favorite fashion sites to visit.

Refinery 29- This site is a conglomeration of many different writers and is almost like the New York Times for fashion. They have emphasis on certain cities like New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Chicago and Washington D.C.  They have articles about fashion and many articles about how awesome Ryan Gosling is. Their articles are informative and pretty hilarious and it’s updated all the time so there is always something new to read.

Whatiwore.tumblr.com- This blog is written by Jessica Quirk and she takes a picture or what she wears everyday. This may sound creepy but I check out this blog and see what Jessica is wearing next, everyday. She always has really cute outfits. She is also a talented designer and makes a lot of her outfits herself (which really makes me jealous)

Kendieverday.blogspot.com-This is also a daily outfit blog but it is written by Kendi. She has the best sense of humor and always makes me laugh. She has really cute outfits and tends to wear a lot of color which I like since I don’t really wear any.

Runwayhippie.com- Yes this is another daily outfit blog and it is written by Sonia. She is the most edgy out of all of these girls and she always has really interesting outfits and is really good at layering all of her outfits. She is also really funny and always seems like she has so many things going on.

Tips I learned from Black Friday shopping

Written by Emily Marshall. Posted in Trends

For the past few years, my mom, sister and I always go shopping on Black Friday. Yes, we are some of those crazy people that wake up at like 3 a.m. and shop. It may sound crazy but it is always a fun experience, and I’ve learned a lot — especially when it comes to what to wear.

Although it may sound slightly insane and frivolous, there is actually a lot of planning that goes into this crazy morning madness.

But, there is also another problem that comes with Black Friday shopping — what are you going to wear? Some people just tend to wear their pajamas out shopping but when the morning eventually gives way to the afternoon, it seems odd to be out in public in front of tons of people in your pajamas.

It’s hard to figure out what to wear at 3 a.m., so I see why people choose the pajama route, when it’s really hot inside the stores and freezing cold outside. You want to dress warm but you don’t want to end up carrying your coat along with all of your shopping bags.

One solution that seems to work is if you wear a long sleeve tunic or long button down shirt and leggings. This outfit is good because if you want to try on either a shirt or pants while shopping you still have pants and a shirt on to see what the piece really looks like which would be better than wearing a dress.

(Since Black Friday is over, you can use these tips for any other activity where you’ll be outside for a long time — sledding, sporting event, etc.)

To put over the long sleeve shirt it is best to wear a light jacket that way you have a few layers without being too hot and you don’t end up having to carry too much either! I’ve added pictures of some of my favorite pieces; what are yours?
