Spring: Hair and Makeup

Written by Raina. Posted in Accessories, Trends

To find out what the trends for hair and makeup are for this spring, I went to Harper’s Bazaar website. They reported the trends straight from the runway and provided pictures to see the different variations of each look.

The top makeup trends they listed were:

  • Red lips  (various shades)
  • Cat eyes (square, drawn out, double lines, etc.)
  • Bold eyebrows
  • “extreme smoky eyes”
  • “Sporty cheeks” (sun kissed, flushed, glowing, peachy, etc.)
  • Metallic silver (on eye lids)
  • Pops of color (on or around the eyes)
  • “Doll lashes”
  • Glitter around the eyes
  • Pink “rosebud” lips
  • Youthful skin

The top hair trends they listed were:

  • Wet hair
  • Ponytails
  • Wavy
  • “embellished updos”
  • Big Blowouts
  • Braids and twists

For the makeup trends, overall I liked the look of all that were posted. However, on myself, I would skip out on a few of these such as the silver metallic eyes, the extreme smoky eyes, the pops of color on the eyes, glitter around the eyes, and the doll lashes.

For the hair trends, I also liked all of those as well (some variations more than others). For myself, I would wear the hair trends that were more toned down and minimal.

Coachella 2012 Style

With the first weekend of Coachella 2012 behind us, online sources are posting their pictures taken at the desert music festival for all who weren’t there to see. I viewed pictures on websites such as Harpers Bazaar, Elle, Style.com, Vogue, Stylelist, and a couple others to see what was going on clothing wise. Other than some people taking into account the rain and cooler temperatures, the outfits were nothing far from the regular festival attire. I’m sure there was an eclectic mix of styles and outfits, but since I was not there, I can only go by what I saw in the pictures provided.

First let’s start with the necessities. These are the top items that I continuously saw throughout the photos:

  • Ankle boots
  • Jean shorts
  • Messenger bags
  • Sunglasses
  • Fringe

More popular items I spotted were short and long dresses, large floppy hats, a lot of denim, crop tops, and hip length jackets paired with shorts.

If you plan on going to a music festival/concert soon or over the summer, you can find ideas from the items listed above…or from Dsquared Spring 2012 ready-to-wear. All of these items come in many styles, giving you the freedom to create your own look. For example the ankle boots could be suede, fringe, cowboy style, or military boots. Your shorts can be denim in different shades of blue, black, white, gray, bleached, leather, lace, biker shorts, etc. The messenger bag could be small or large, structured, slouchy, have fringe, as long as your hands remain free. Well, you get the point, most people will have the same essentials, but wear and style it according to you, and more importantly have fun!

This coming weekend, the Coachella lineup repeats itself, but will the outfits have a new beat?

Sephora x Pantone

Written by Raina. Posted in Accessories

A couple weeks ago I wrote about Pantone’s Color of the Year: Tangerine Tango. Well, the day after that, via Nylon magazines online website, I was informed that Pantone would be teaming up with Sephora to launch an exclusive, limited edition set of beauty products all based on the color of the year.

This collection is currently in Sephora stores now, and the products include nail polish, lipstick and lip gloss, blush, makeup brushes, eye shadow and eyeliner, faux lashes, and of course a makeup bag to hold all of your beautifully bright products!

The packaging of the products, to quote what is written on Sephora’s website is, “housed in an untra-sleek architectural design as a nod to the iconic Pantone chip, making this collection both a stylish and exotic addition to your makeup bag.”

Pantone doing this collection with Sephora was an exciting, and great move. It’s a fun way to play with color from two popular companies coming together. Hopefully this is something they will continue to do every year with Pantone. It allows people looking for that exact color to shop within a collection providing that exact color, and where the range of that color all compliment each other.

Sephora provides a collector’s edition set for $68 where you can sample the products. Or, you can purchase a smaller set of a product range, for example, I saw a set of four nail polishes in stores at Sephora, and a set of four lip glosses. Now, we will just have to put these products to the test and see how they really tango! Has anyone tried them yet?
