Target Teams up with Neiman Marcus for Holiday Collection

Written by admin. Posted in Accessories, Holiday, Retailers

The go-to retailer for designer collaborations has done it again, teaming up with Neiman Marcus for a holiday collection featuring pieces from 24 CFDA designers.

This December, gift giving will get a whole lot easier with a selection of 50 items created by top fashion designers available from Target and Neiman-Marcus stores as well as their respective websites. In addition to apparel and accessories, the design team created home décor items, sporting goods and pet accessories. With an Oscar de la Renta dog bowl, cookie cutters from Band of Outsiders, an Alice + Olivia Bicycle, a few of the most adorable girls dresses from Jason Wu and Marches and much more, this collection truly has something for everyone on your shopping list. Prices range from $7.99 to $499.99, with most items retailing between $39.99 and $79.99.

The collection includes items from Target collaboration alums Jason Wu, Proenza Schouler and Rodarte in addition to many new faces such as Marc Jacobs, Diane von Furstenberg, Rag & Bone and Marchesa. Be sure to look for the pieces by Prabal Gurung, who was recently tapped as the next designer to create an exclusive Target collection.

As if you needed another reason to shop the holiday collection, to celebrate the CFDA’s 50th anniversary Target and Neiman Marcus are collectively donating $1 million to the organization.

The Target + Neiman Marcus collection is set to hit stores Dec. 1, 2012 but with the star power behind this collaboration, don’t expect to see items stick around for long.

H&M Collaboration

Ashley’s Pick

Fast-fashion retailer H&M has introduced its newest designer collaboration with Maison Martin Margiela, which will be released this month. The line includes a total of 103 pieces, ranging from jewelry and accessories to bodysuits and dresses. The aesthetic of the pieces is consistent with Margiela’s signature style, characteristic of oversized fit and dramatic yet wearable tailoring. The Maison Martin Margiela x H&M line will be in stores Nov. 15, 2012 so take a peek at the newly released look book images and plan on heading to the store early to beat the rush and grab your favorite pieces before they’re gone.

My favorite piece from the line is this funky body suit that can easily be coordinated into many different looks. This fall, statement graphic tees and sweaters have been a popular trend, and it was translated into this piece with the faux bikini-top detail. I would style this bodysuit with leather sweatpant trousers and booties, but it is versatile enough to be paired with anything from a patterned skirt to your favorite high-waisted denim. This is one item that is definitely worth the long and anticipated wait.

Of all the luxury designer collaborations with H&M, Maison Martin Margiela’s line is by far my favorite. The collection is nothing short of stunning, a definite must-see if you’re traveling to New York or Chicago after the unveiling on November 15. I’m obsessed with the impeccable drape, oversized, masculine silhouettes and exposed seams on many of the garments, qualities one can expect from MMM.

My favorite look from the MMM line is the ladies oversized turtleneck in navy. I love the pairing of black and navy found throughout the collection. This sweater is gathered at one side, with elongated sleeves and a seemingly lengthy silhouette overall. To channel the fun, avant-garde style of the collection, pair this sweater with a bold, wide-leg trouser. For everyday, throw on black skinny jeans and your favorite pair of boots. No matter how you style it, this sweater is sure to be a worthwhile investment for your wardrobe.

If you were a fan of the H&M and Versace collaboration, get excited because Maison Martin Margiela is heading to H&M stores this month. There were so many amazing pieces from the collection that I would love to own, including an array of snazzy leggings, quirky oversized sweaters and gorgeous draped dresses. However, there is one piece in particular that I am dying to get my hands on.

This MMM biker jacket is the epitome of what I like to call “gothic elegance.” Biker jackets will always be a staple in my wardrobe. This gorgeous jacket would stand out against the rest of my black, studded and zippered biker-chick garb. For those looking for a quality biker jacket, rest assured that this will be one of a kind. The price is not too outrageous when you consider the designer, fabric and unique details.

Fashion Blitz — Interviewing Attire

Julia’s Pick

Whether you are a graduating senior looking for a job or an underclassman looking for a summer internship, most students have already begun the search for a company to work for. Once you score the interview, you must decide how to make the best first impression. What you choose to wear to an interview is just as important as the interview itself. Ditch the plain, black pantsuit (especially if you are seeking a creative profession), and add pops of color and statement jewelry to show off your dazzling personality. You must find creative ways to make yourself stand out, whether it is wearing a stylish heel, printed blouse or quirky jewelry.

For my look, I chose a classic, black pencil skirt and paired it with a feather-printed, wine-colored blouse. You can either spice it up with bold bracelets and a statement necklace, or keep it clean and polished with minimal jewelry. No matter what you choose, just be yourself.

Trying to select the right outfit for an interview can be challenging. The type of position and field you are interviewing for are important factors to consider when deciding what is most appropriate. No matter what type of job it may be, choose an outfit that embodies your personality and will cause you to stand out amid a crowd of first impressions.

My pick this week is a great example of being bold but still appropriate for an interview. The pieces are polished and minimal, but the color and subtle details cause the outfit to stand out in the right ways. These oxblood pants are a more stylish alternative to classic business slacks. They are perfectly tailored, with an appropriate fit for an interview that’s not too tight on the body. The blouse is a soft ivory that offsets the bold color of the pants. The collar of the blouse is adorned with nude and gold sequins, the fun factor to this duo. My golden rule when searching for the right shoes for an interview is to always wear heels. Nude heels are a great investment because they are incredibly sophisticated and pair well with any outfit. With this outfit, you’re ready to make a flawless first impression, but it’s up to you to land the job.

Dressing up for an interview does not mean you have to resort to the typical black blazer and dress-pant outfit combination. Especially if you’re a fashion major or are looking to work in a creative environment, showing a bit of your personality through what you’re wearing — if done in an appropriate sense — can work to your advantage.

For my look this week, I chose a draped skirt because it is a unique substitute for an ordinary pencil skirt. The silk top has an interesting pattern that isn’t too busy or eclectic for a business environment. Be sure to not over accessorize your look, and instead add one or two statement pieces such as the gold collar necklace pictured. Neutral toned heels complete this look that is perfect for a career fair or job interview.
