There’s only so many string bikini’s a girl can have before she grows tired of them. Whether at the pool or the beach,  every lady seems to be sporting the same old, classic bathing suit. If you’re like me, standing out amongst the crowd even at the pool is as important as with your everyday outfits. The solution I’ve found for breaking the swimsuit doldrums? Retro inspired suits.

I can’t help but want to be Marilyn Monroe every time I see that picture of her in an infamous, retro swimsuit. She makes what would seem dowdy, impeccably sexy in a unique way. She didn’t have to show it all but let her famous curves speak for themselves effortlessly. Retro swimsuits are just that: effortless.

The style may be hard to find since it’s still growing in popularity, but here are a few great sites and places where you can hunt one down:

1. If you’re willing to spend the money, Modcloth has the most darling retro inspired suits with everything from ice cream to polka dots on them.

2. American Apparel has high-waisted swimsuit bottoms like the above, left picture for just $25.

3. Forever21 is coming out with affordable (and not to mention adorable) vintage inspired suits like pictured in the middle.

4. And finally, try your hand at thrifting. I thrifted the vintage 1960′s one piece in the above right picture for a few dollars. Check Etsy.com if you’re not confident in your thrifting skills yet for an easy way to find exactly what you’re looking for.

Swim Suit Season

Written by Alexa Krynicki. Posted in Trends

I love when the weather gets warmer because that means trips to the shore are right around the corner. I am so excited because this summer, I will be working at a swim suit boutique where I will get to help women pick out bathing suits and beach-y accessories. No matter how good everyone else thinks you look in a suit, it is up to you to rock it with confidence. Here are my top bathing suit picks:Annette Funicello dead at 70

The 1940s fashion is definitely trending right now, and we can even see that in swim attire. Ally’s bathing suit in “The Notebook” is a perfect example. If you are willing to splurge, check out this adorable red and white striped bandeau top bikini from Moda Operandi. It is adorned with an adorable bow. I found a cheaper alternative at Macy’s. This one had red and white polka dots, as well as a skirted bottom. For a real retro look, check out Modcloth’s collection. This high-waisted white and red checkered bikini is right on trend. Another choice from Modcloth is this Marilyn Monroe inspired white one piece.

Target is my one stop shop for cheap but cute bathing suits and accessories. I love that they offer suits with a little extra padding. This navy Mossimo monokini is so cute and sure to flatter any body shape. Aztec and geometric shapes are also in this season. I love this geometric printed suit by Xhilaration. Another trend this summer is crochet, and this coral Xhilaration suit is sure to make you stand out on the beach. Also, it would look great with a sun-kissed

Written by Lilly Messner. Posted in Accessories, Trends

For those of you who have never heard of Coachella, it is an annual three-day music and arts festival that takes place in Indio, California. The event features many different music genres including indie, rock, hip-hop and many more. This IMG_3980festival is not just about the music but it’s also about the clothing! Looking hip and staying cool is the most important thing while attending this festival, which is usually scorching hot. Going to this festival is like attending a fashion show from the 1960s. Tons of vintage, bohemian and edgy looks are seen everywhere. This year Coachella is April 12 to 14 and the 19 to 21. There have been many trends spotted this year that anyone could try in their own wardrobe to achieve the hip, artsy look.

Crop Tops

These midriff baring tops are one of the hottest looks seen at Coachella. They are perfect for the high temperatures and long days. Some of these tops are simple T-shirt styles and others are patterned or feature lace or fringe. These crops tops are mostly seen with high-wasted denim or flowy skirts.

IMG_4130Ankle Boots

From studs to fringe, ankle boots are the shoe of choice while attending this festival. Some of these boots have small heels, and some lace all the way up. A popular designer that is seen is Steve Madden because of his specialty in boots. These boots are worn with anything from long skirts to shorts.

Maxi Dresses and Skirts

These Bohemian pieces are very popular at the festival. From bold prints to sheer lace, there are so many options to choose from. IMG_4127These dresses/skirts are usually worn with denim vests or jackets. Belts and cross-body bags are a few accessories paired with the maxi.

Accessories

Accessories are the most unique and original things at the festival, and they really are what makes the outfit. Long necklaces, braided bracelets, feather earrings and circle framed sunglasses are just a few key accessories that are seen. Other items like headbands, bags and rings are also huge items that add to the hippy esque look that is seen at Coachella.
