Maxi skirts are a trend that I love. They give off an artsy, bohemian look that I fall in love with every time. Some people might be nervous to try the maxi skirt because they are unsure of how to style it. Here are a few different ways to wear a maxi skirt that will give you a fun, stylish look.

Texturized edge
Mix up different fabric types to create some awesome textures. Pair a feminine lace maxi skirt with a denim or leather jacket to mix up the textures and add a little bit of edge. Add some neon accessories for a little pop of color. This would be perfect to wear to a concert or an art show.

Layered up
A maxi skirt that has an elastic waistline can also be worn as a dress. Wear it belted for a defined waistline and pair with a knit cardigan, an oversized tote bag and some cute cord bracelets. This is a perfect look to wear on a lunch date or a day of shopping.

Bright and bold
Pair a solid-colored maxi skirt with a brightly colored patterned top. This will make a statement, and it is great for a not-too-fancy/not-too-casual event like a baby shower. Finish the look with a chunky bracelet and a cross-body bag.

Work day ready
One of the easiest ways to wear a maxi is to pair it with one of your favorite blouses. A button up shirt or blouse tucked into the maxi will give you an easy-going, professional look that would be perfect to wear to your upcoming business meeting. Add simple accessories and a bright bag to add more color.

Boho casual
If you are going for a more casual look, pair a maxi skirt with a casual graphic T-shirt or basic, plain T-shirt. Add feather accessories for the boho hippy look. This would be great to wear at the park or a trip to the market.

Shopping Local

Written by aoswald. Posted in Retailers, Trends

ChagrinI have worked in a family-owned dancewear boutique since it opened its doors when I was 14. I went from organizing tap shoes and pining for customers to managing its now-booming website that is reaching customers as far as California. I have come to really appreciate and support local businesses after experiencing all the ups and downs of working at an independent store.

There are several reasons to shop local. Exploring the hidden treasures of your community can be an adventure in itself, rather than sauntering down the halls of the closed-off, typical mall. The best way to look unique is to shop in unique places. What is that black bodycon from Forever 21 going to say about your individuality when five other girls at the party have the same dress?

Supporting local businesses also stimulates and strengthens the economic stability of the community, unlike nationally owned chains. These businesses also support community groups, such as youth activities and Greek philanthropies and encourage an overall local prosperity. These are also the businesses that are creating more jobs and offering better customer service.

While downtown Kent has expanded its local fare, I also encourage you to experience other local communities and what they have to offer. Chagrin Falls, Hartville and Medina are all short drives from campus and host a variety of shopping and eating options.

As the warm weather approaches, take advantage of the sunny days by spending it in a new community that you haven’t experienced. You never know what new favorite place you will find.

I’ve touched on this subject a bit before: having that staple piece that can transition through the seasons and go with basically anything in your closet. Somehow I’ve managed to find that article of clothing for $5 in a Body Central. They’re a pair of burgundy corduroy pants that manage to make a ton of different combinations that all look great. So I’ve included some pictures to show how one article of clothing can be your go-to item.
