Beauty Pick of the Week

0120_MakeupMost of the time, simply wearing foundation is not enough to cover under-eye circles, redness or acne breakouts. Investing in a good concealer can mask imperfections without looking “cakey.” The Universal Concealer Palette from Victoria’s Secret comes with three shades to custom mix for the perfect color that can blend seamlessly into skin. The best thing about this concealer is that unlike many others, the concealer is not heavy or oily. The lightweight texture feels close to natural on the skin while effectively covering blemishes or uneven skin tones.

Monochromatic

Fashion insiders and designers are always telling us the more colors we mix, the better. Color block to your heart’s content! A trend much overlooked and under appreciated though is monochromatic — wearing all the same color.  Wearing a monochromatic outfit has a big impact visually and is the perfect way to stand out in a crowd of color-mixing friends.

Wearing all one color is not as daunting as it may seem. The trick is to mix various textures and fabrics so that the look in multidimensional rather than flat. Use cottons with chiffons and wool with tulle. The more contrast of the fabrics the better to add juxtaposition. Also, adding pieces that have the same color but in different patterns is another way of going monochromatic. Try black first — a safe color — and mix away at stripes, dots and hearts.

So go ahead! Go pick out your favorite color, and don it from head to toe (and maybe even your lipstick, too).

Fancy Pants

Denim jeans are always going to be in style, but bright colors and fun prints are taking basic jeans to a whole new level. Colored and printed jeans are a very popular trend that might be sticking around for a while. Creative geometric prints and floral patterns are making pants the new focal point in an outfit.

IMG_6643Usually people wear basic blue jeans and then have some sort of fancy top to make the outfit pop, but now pants are becoming the main part of an outfit. Taking a pair of jeans with an exciting pattern and pairing it with a basic colored top brings all of your attention to the pants.

These pants are a great way for someone to play up patterns and create original looks. These patterns can range from polka dots to animal print. Colored jeans are also very popular but are a little bit more subtle than the patterned pants. You can find basically any color jean you want — the colors are even becoming season-oriented. Light pastel pinks and mint greens for summer time are very common and dark burgundies and hunter greens are becoming increasingly popular for fall and winter.

IMG_6642These jeans also make it very easy to accessorize. Wearing a pair of floral printed flats with a colored pant that matches helps make the outfit look put together instead of just a basic blue jean.

Color blocking is another great trend, and colored jeans make this trend simple to accomplish. Putting together a solid color top with different colored pants is an easy way to get the trendy color-blocking look. If you are looking for an easy way to spice up your wardrobe, I would suggest buying a pair of patterned or colored jeans as they are fun, unique and here to stay.
