Ann Yee

Last year I had theIMG_1937 opportunity to speak with Ann Yee. I interned at a shoe company that she borrowed from for her Spring 2013 fashion show, which took place on top of a roof in New York City. Her garments flowed in the wind and they seemed to sparkle in the bright sun. Ann Yee is definitely an up and coming designer, and you should keep your eye on her. After her NYC studio burned down, she spent a lot of time in the Pacific Northwest where she was greatly inspired by the weather and the way it affects the ocean. Inspiration also stemmed from tangled ropes on a pier and the color scheme definitely comes from studying the shoreline. Colors range from sea foam blue to textured seaweed green. The garments flow so effortlessly, they are fluid like water. I am excited to see what Ann Yee has in store for the future.

Trending Trends!

A look I think will be prominent in the upcoming months is the sleeveless, buttoned up, collared shirt. I noticed that many stores are currently sporting the look and giving customers great ideas on how to implement the piece into their everyday wardrobe. It’s such a versatile little shirt I predict it’ll be a hit!

One way I love the look of this shirt is when it’s paired with a skirt. Depending on the type of skirt you pair it with, it can be worn for a nice walk around town with friends, a date or even during a day at the internships many of us will be participating in through the summer months. I myself prefer the look of a flowing A-line skirt to balance the fitted look of the top.

Another way to wear the look is to pair it with pants. Skinny jeans give the look a nice flow but at the same time it can be paired with flared slacks to give it a more polished look. If you really want to go casual a pair of shorts of a nice pair of rolled capris could be another direction to take it.

The look even comes in a dress form if you really want to skip the mixing and matching game. Charlotte Russe has a great collection of collared shirt dresses that come in a variety of prints and colors perfect for the feel of the upcoming summer. And they even follow my cardinal rule of being easy to throw on in the morning while still looking like you put thought in your outfit.

So go out and find the fabric, color, and fit that work for you and add a little class in your wardrobe!

Swim Suit Season

Written by Alexa Krynicki. Posted in Trends

I love when the weather gets warmer because that means trips to the shore are right around the corner. I am so excited because this summer, I will be working at a swim suit boutique where I will get to help women pick out bathing suits and beach-y accessories. No matter how good everyone else thinks you look in a suit, it is up to you to rock it with confidence. Here are my top bathing suit picks:Annette Funicello dead at 70

The 1940s fashion is definitely trending right now, and we can even see that in swim attire. Ally’s bathing suit in “The Notebook” is a perfect example. If you are willing to splurge, check out this adorable red and white striped bandeau top bikini from Moda Operandi. It is adorned with an adorable bow. I found a cheaper alternative at Macy’s. This one had red and white polka dots, as well as a skirted bottom. For a real retro look, check out Modcloth’s collection. This high-waisted white and red checkered bikini is right on trend. Another choice from Modcloth is this Marilyn Monroe inspired white one piece.

Target is my one stop shop for cheap but cute bathing suits and accessories. I love that they offer suits with a little extra padding. This navy Mossimo monokini is so cute and sure to flatter any body shape. Aztec and geometric shapes are also in this season. I love this geometric printed suit by Xhilaration. Another trend this summer is crochet, and this coral Xhilaration suit is sure to make you stand out on the beach. Also, it would look great with a sun-kissed
