Fashion & Style: The Oscars

Written by admin. Posted in The Blitz

The Oscars are the red carpet event of the season, and this year, the fashion did not disappoint. At the 85th Academy Awards, the stars came out dressed to impress with sparkling gowns, tailored tuxes and shiny jewelry. Of course, no matter how stunning all of Hollywood’s finest look each year, all of the viewers at home undoubtedly have a favorite dress of the night. Here are some of the leading ladies whose looks the stylists loved.

  • Ashley's Pick Ashley's Pick The Oscars always bring out the glam, and Halle Berry’s embellished long-sleeved Versace gown was a perfect example. The silver and black custom-made dress featured structured shoulders, an open back and a deep-V neck. Its dazzling appearance undoubtedly turned heads. Geometric sequined stripes accentuated the tailored design, making this look shine on the red carpet. Photo by Allen J. Schaben | MCT
  • Megan's Pick Megan's Pick Charlize Theron looked picture-perfect on the red carpet Sunday evening in Christian Dior Haute Couture. While most of the stars opted for high glam with metallic sequins, Theron kept it sexy and understated. Her stark-white gown featured a notched bodice with a structured, subtly embellished peplum and a floor-grazing train. Theron never fails to look stunning, but at the 85th Academy Awards, she gave elegance a whole new meaning. Photo by Jay L. Clendenin | MCT
  • Annie's Pick Annie's Pick Jennifer Aniston’s Valentino gown was the dress I was waiting to see make the transition from runway to red carpet. A far cry from the actress’s usual slinky, black looks, the elegant simplicity of the gown was breathtaking. The traditional Valentino red was the perfect color to exude old Hollywood glamour. The full skirt and fitted bodice suited the actress perfectly, complementing her fit figure. Simple hair and makeup allowed the dress to take the spotlight on the carpet. Photo by Allen J. • Cassandra's Pick Cassandra's Pick I absolutely loved Jessica Chastain’s look at the Oscars. She went for a copper-colored, beaded Armani Privé dress, which worked perfectly with her fair skin and red hair. She also finished her look with a wavy, Old Hollywood hairstyle and bright red lipstick, giving her overall look a completely classic vibe. Photo by Francis Specker | MCT

Valentine’s Day Style

Cassandra’s Pick

Looking to get a bit more dressed up for Valentine’s Day? Consider trying out a cute sweater dress. Not only are they an adorable option, but they also keep you toasty in the cold February weather. I loved how this one could be easily dolled up with the addition of the cream blouse underneath, but it’s still completely practical for everyday wear once the date is over. I topped this outfit off with a bright orange coat to lighten things up and to give the look more contrast.

Annie’s Pick

Dress up for the occasion with a printed button-down and tie. Khaki chinos and a zip-up sweater give the look a clean-cut, classic vibe. With plenty of options to pair, this look is simple and easily adaptable to your own style.

Ashley’s Pick

If you opt for wearing red on Valentine’s Day, keep your outfit from looking less traditional by pairing it with a fun mix of patterns. The cheetah print bag is just large enough to hold the essentials for a date night, such as lip gloss, cell phone and some extra cash. The textured blazer and semi-tailored skinny jeans are the perfect staples for this casual date night look.

Megan’s Pick

For a casual date night outing, throw on a pair of jeans with your sweater-shirt combo, rather than chinos. Light grey denim is a stylish alternative to your traditional blue jeans, and they are just as easy to incorporate in an outfit. Throw on a lightweight zip jacket to finish off your casual look.
