Beauty Pick of the Week

0120_MakeupMost of the time, simply wearing foundation is not enough to cover under-eye circles, redness or acne breakouts. Investing in a good concealer can mask imperfections without looking “cakey.” The Universal Concealer Palette from Victoria’s Secret comes with three shades to custom mix for the perfect color that can blend seamlessly into skin. The best thing about this concealer is that unlike many others, the concealer is not heavy or oily. The lightweight texture feels close to natural on the skin while effectively covering blemishes or uneven skin tones.

A new year is a perfect opportunity for lifestyle resolutions, but it’s also a great time to come up with some creative fashion resolutions to revamp your wardrobe for a fresh start. Here are our fashion resolutions.

Although I could never truly part with my favorite black blazer, colored suiting is making a splash in 2013. This bright pink blazer is just the key to transition into the New Year with a pop of color. Look for pieces that can work with your current wardrobe while taking a step out of your comfort zone.

For 2013, I’m doing away with the floral jeans trend and replacing my printed pants with chunky knit sweaters. I’ve found myself integrating many more sweaters with my wardrobe so far this year and wear them practically every day.

This year, out with the classic lace dress and in with intricate sheer overlays. For 2013, prepare to ditch all-over lace pieces in exchange for more baroque motifs. This means out with the classic lace dress and in with ornate overlays. One 2012 staple I refuse to part with is my lightweight parka-jacket. Once the winter temperatures subside, re-introduce your jacket by pairing it with a tee, shorts and sandals for a carefree spring look.

My fashion resolution is to vow to leave peplums back in 2012. We’ve seen peplum overkill everywhere: on tops, dresses and even blazers (who thought that was a good idea, anyway?) One thing I’m keeping in 2013 is these B.P by Nordstrom distressed ankle booties. They’re the perfect everyday boot that can easily be dressed up or down, and they’re a great budget staple at less than $100.

Julia’s Pick

The holiday party season has officially begun. This means it is time to get your party looks together while the sales are hot. Charlotte Russe has an amazing variety of fierce holiday outfits for an even better price.

This week, I put together a look for the bold fashion leaders. I chose a navy blue lace button-up and tucked it into a pair of cocktail hot shorts covered in aqua, iridescent sequins. This outfit can be worn with a camisole or bandeau underneath, depending on the amount of coverage you desire. Mixing textures is a fun way to enhance your holiday style. Charlotte Russe has some spectacular deals going on right now, so don’t miss out.

Ashley’s Pick

For all things sparkly and ready for a night out, Charlotte Russe has a wide variety of options, from sequin-covered dresses to studded blouses. My favorite piece from my look this week was the cropped, zip-up bustier. The metallic tweed gives the top a wintery and holiday-appropriate feel.

The red color of the blazer signifies the coming season, which is why I chose it for a pop of color. The peplum-style leather skirt paired with the cropped top gives the illusion of an hourglass figure while still staying on trend. Finish off the look with holiday-inspired makeup and your festive party ensemble is complete.

Tweed Cropped Top, $10.00
Leather Peplum Skirt, $27.99

Megan’s Pick

When velvet popped up in the fall collections of Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Etro and Bottega Veneta, I instantly wondered how it would transition off the runway. Charlotte Russe hit the nail on the head with this body-con mini dress.

The velvet is a lustrous combination of black and blue, perfect for any holiday party. Because of the flattering fit of the dress, I opted for minimalistic styling and had fun with accessories. The black, studded slip-on sneakers and spike necklace give the look an edgy, ’90s grunge mood. If you’re looking for something more traditional, throw on your favorite blazer and a pair of heels for a glamorous holiday look.
