Spring Time Denim

DENIMS DENIMS

Denim jackets, vests and of course pants are huge for spring. The light weight material is perfect for the not too hot, not too cold weather that spring brings. Denim jackets are perfect to pair with cute spring dresses or to wear with zip up hoodies for a more casual look on a colder day. Denim vests are another huge thing that I have been seeing a lot lately. These vests give off the punk rock edge but can also be really girly in some cases. Vests are great to wear with a pair of dark jeans and a pattern shirt for a more feminine look. Pair a vest with some leather leggings and an oversized scarf for an edgy look. When wearing denim on top you have to be careful not to over do it and match the same color on the bottom. To make sure the outfit looks okay, wear darker pants with a lighter wash on top or colored pants. You can find pretty much any wash and any cut denim jacket or vest, so pick the one that’s right for you, and incorporate it into your spring wardrobe!

Indie Music Inspiration

Written by Jackie Onderko. Posted in Accessories, Trends

While enjoying the weather this weekend, I couldn’t stop scrolling through the millions of pictures of people living it up at Coachella.

I have dreams of attending just so I can see, in person, all the creative ways people choose to dress.

Wanting so badly to attend, I decided to inspire that day’s outfit from all the new, artistic ideas seen at the music festival.

Aiming for a less-than-girly look, I finally broke out my high-waisted black denim shorts.

By pairing them with a tan chunky sweater and combat boots, it helped give the look the edge that I adore.

Of course, I had to add a pop of color, so I chose a pink braided belt.  Finishing off with accessories, I piled my arms high with various textures of bracelets.

DIY: Denim Ombre Shirt

Written by Jackie Onderko. Posted in Accessories

I know, I know, I have been on an ombre kick lately, but I can’t help it!  There is just something fascinating about the gradual color change from light to dark.

This time, I come to you with a DIY project for a denim ombre shirt.

Here is what you will need:

-       Denim shirt (or shorts, jeans, vest, etc- I found mine at a thrift store!)

-       RIT color remover (can be found at Walmart for under $2)

-       Pot and stove

-       Bleach (if needed)

Step 1- Fill a deep pot with water.  You should make sure you would have enough water to immerse the whole shirt into.

Step 2- Put the pot on the stove and turn on the burner.  When the water starts simmering, stir in the RIT color remover and make sure it dissolves completely.

Step 3- Remove the pot from the stove and immerse the entire shirt into the water solution for about 2 minutes.

Step 4- Take the bottom 1/3 of the shirt out of the solution and leave the top 2/3’s of the shirt still soaking for another 5 minutes.

Step 5- Take out the bottom 2/3’s of the shirt, and leave the top 1/3 soaking for 5 more minutes.

Step 6- Take the entire shirt out of the pot and rinse with cold water.  Be careful, the shirt will be hot.

Step 7- If the very top of your shirt seems too dark (like mine did), mix an equal solution of bleach and water and let the top soak for as long as desired.

Step 8- Throw the shirt in the wash and you are ready to go!
