Fashion Blitz — Beyond your basic denim

Ashley’s pick

No matter what time of the year, you can’t go wrong with throwing on a classic denim button down.

The shirt for my denim inspired look this week is a twist on the classic, with cut out and color blocking accents.

Both trends are huge for spring, yet it is still simple enough to be worn once the trend has come and gone. The shorts are also evident of spring/summer 2012′s trends, showcasing the widely popular pastel hues and floral pattern.

I like the busy pattern of the shorts paired with the structural and simple detailing on the shirt to balance out the outfit. A pop of color in the belt helps the light pink color in the shorts stand out a bit more and also to add more dimension to the outfit.

The strappy heels are consistent with the overall girl look of the outfit, but for cooler temperatures opt for booties and a pair of sheer tights instead. Whatever the weather, this look is sure to look fun and flirty.

Karen’s pick

Denim shorts may not seem all that out of the ordinary, but what makes this pair unique is the fact that it’s chambray construction gives them a drape and ease that are more difficult to achieve with a typical twill weave.

The advantage? These shorts are perfect for any girl looking for something comfortable and casual, but still remarkably stylish and put-together.

A look like this is an ideal choice for brunch with friends, or even running errands if you switch out the heels for a pair of flat lace-ups.

Overall, this laid back ensemble declares that even dressing for comfort can look sophisticated and chic when you pair together the right pieces.

Missy’s pick

Take a look at this dress and tell me that it doesn’t falsify the phrase “basic denim.” This Gentle Fawn dress, which can be found at Noto in Akron, defines what it is like to be subtly sexy.

From the front, the simple crew neck of this garment is playful but simple. From the back, however, the caged detailing, which frames the wearer’s shoulders and back, is intriguing and adorable.

To further heighten the appeal of the back of this look, I chose to turn the charm of the necklace toward the back as to contribute to the main focus.

I selected shoes that added a fun and vibrant pop of color to the ensemble; however, I wanted to keep the style of the shoe simple since the dress does all of the talking.

NOTO boutique: unique fashion trends at affordable prices

Written by Taylor Parks. Posted in Retailers

Most people do not want to walk around town and see others wearing the same thing. However, when you go shopping at NOTO this won’t happen. Located in a cute, cozy corner in Akron’s historic district, NOTO, which means famous in Italian, is a ladies clothing boutique that carries fashionable items for a great price.

Owner Lauren Ward wanted to bring a charismatic store to the area that could supply the community with exclusive items.

“We are definitely a destination location,” Ward said.

Walking into this store, it’s easy to tell they try to set themselves apart from other retailers. The minute you set foot into the store you enter this new world of fashion.

Since the store opened in 2008, customers have loved NOTO’s style in the store. It carries everything you could need for that perfect outfit: dresses, tops, bottoms, outerwear, accessories and even some beauty items. The store even has a vintage section. Sometimes vintage can cost more than new items, but NOTO’s vintage items are very well priced and affordable for any budget.

The other brands the store carries are Gentle Fawn, Kensie Girl, Dogwood Design, KYEbags and By Nieves. The wide variety means that no matter what occasion you are shopping for, there is something for you.
