Tangerine Tango

Written by Raina. Posted in Accessories, Trends

As many of you may know, every year the color company Pantone releases a Color of the Year. Pantone is a global company that offers color services for all things color related. Last year, the color was Honeysuckle, but this year, Pantone has determined the official color for 2012 to be Tangerine Tango, or in technical terms, PANTONE 17-1463.

I enjoy this color because it is a nice pop of color that is very vibrant and cheerful. And even though you won’t usually find me in a head to toe outfit of bright colors, I still love color, and find a way to add it into my outfits.

One way that I will be wearing Tangerine Tango, is on my nails. On myself, I always felt that reds with orange mixed in them suited me better than straight red, so Tangerine Tango is the perfect color. A similar color that I found for spring from last year, is Caliente Coral (Sephora by O.P.I.). This color is more of an orange, and to me, it screams summer, although I would wear it anytime of the year. You can find this color in many nail polish brands. I’ve seen similar colors in Essie, Revlon, Loreal, and more.

Ways to incorporate Tangerine Tango into your life:

  • In clothing, of course (tops, bottoms, dresses, etc.)
  • Swimwear
  • Makeup (lipstick, eye liner, etc.)
  • Hair dye
  • Accessories (jewelry, bags, belts, etc.)
  • Shoes
  • Electronic accessories
  • Home interior

How will you incorporate Tangerine Tango into your style?

Trend: Pajama/Lounge Wear

Written by Raina. Posted in Trends

A trend for this spring, that was also big last spring, is pajama or lounge wear.  Before some of you get too excited, this is not to be confused with just anything that is used as actual pajamas. While this gives off a laid back vibe, it is far from sloppy. You can pair pajama wear with denim, pants or shorts, a blouse or tank top, a blazer or leather jacket, and with heels, platforms, or flats.

What- Pajama pants and lounge wear

Who-Seen on the runway (Paul Smith and ADAM by Adam Lippes), and seen on the street (street style blogs).

When- Trend for Spring. Can be worn during any season, but nice for Spring and Summer.

Where- Can be worn on many occasions including shopping, out to lunch, or relaxing with friends. Can also be dressed up or down. Great for the daytime.

Why- Comfortable, laid back, and a nice change from jeans.

In the picture I have Jennifer wearing a pair of  pajama style pants from the thrift store. The pants have various colors of blue, and also has white and black.

The way I have it styled of her is more casual, but still put together. She has on a fitted white tank top, a gray cropped blazer,  platform wedges, and a tan flat messenger bag. The jewelry is two bracelets and a ring. One bracelet has jade beads, and the other is black and gold. The ring is a pale pink stone.

Headwear: Headbands and Hats

Written by Raina. Posted in Accessories

Headwear is great for many reasons. It can be worn strictly for decoration, or for function. There are so many different styles or looks of headbands and hats. For headbands, I like them to be stretchy, and I wear them around my forehead, instead of pushed back on my head like a regular headband.

And for hats, I like them to either be a slouchy, beanie style, or more fitted. When worn for function, hats and headbands are nice for cold, windy, and rainy weather, to keep your hair in one place, or just for bad hair days. The headwear I have pictured are mostly headbands, and then there are three hats.

They were all purchased at H&M (with the exception of three of them), some recently, and others throughout the past couple of years.

The three headbands in the first row are all the same, but in different colors. They are thick, soft, warm, and great for the winter. In the middle row, the blue and the black headband (on opposite ends) are also the same headbands as well.

As you can see from the blue one, it is meant to have a knot in the front, but I manipulate it so there’s not a knot in the front because I don’t like that look for me. The neon pink hat is from Gabriel Brothers (not sure of the brand), and the turban style hat can be found at a hair/beauty supply store.

The camel colored hat is itchy on the forehead, and doesn’t lay flat on the head, but I still wear it anyways. In the third row, the headband on the left is from either Forever 21, or from their accessories store, I can’t remember. It also has the knot in the front, which can’t be manipulated like the others.

You can’t tell from the picture, but it is actually striped, with one fabric having a subtle shimmer to it, and the other just black. The last headband on the right is just a thick, braided, black headband.

You can find headwear at many clothing and accessory stores, you just have to look for them. At some places they can be more expensive, but the ones I bought were all very reasonably priced, and have stayed in great shape.

Also, keep in mind that you can just as easily make your own headband or hat!  That way, you can use whatever material or fabric of your choice, and it’s custom made. Or you can use other items like scarves, rope, ties, whatever you’d like!
